Their Juvenile Books and Chapbooks

S. Roscoe & R. A. Brimmell

James Lumsden & Son was a Scottish engraving and publishing firm based in Glasgow. Founded in 1783, they were especially known for high-quality printed editions of juvenile literature, or children's books. The present volume makes no claim to be a complete list of Lumsden Juvenile publications. Apart from a few titles they are extremely scarce. Many have vanished completely from the market and have only been listed from advertisements.

The late Sydney Roscoe commenced making notes for a bibliography of the juvenile publications of James Lumsden & Son of Glasgow in the early 1950s. Brimmell and Roscoe had a mutual enthusiasm for Lumsden. After Roscoe fell ill, Brimmell offered to take over his notes and complete the book.
